What is Story Minders?

This site is going under construction in May and June 2013. Stay tuned. A new, easier to use, more informative, and highly accessible site will be released in June!

Story Minders uses the arts and storytelling to bring the narratives and ideas of people with brain injuries from the margins into larger society.

You will find information on this site on brain injury comedy films I write and produce. I use film to tell stories of life with a brain injury because the microphone catches my voice while the camera catches every glance, grimace, and gesture. Often, the internal chaos of an injured mind cannot be described in words and must be shown and felt.

Also on this site will be an ever-growing list of other folks who create disability arts and mixed ability arts, especially those with brain injuries. Disability and mixed ability arts provide us with a much-needed space to add our talent to the public sphere, where it rightfully belongs.

The focus is not on films where non-disabled actors portray people with disabilities. It is a place to learn about and share storytelling by people who experience and tell their stories themselves.

Please suggest sites, groups, and art to add to Story Minders so that it is a resource for the community.

Because brain injury isn’t necessarily visible, it is up to those of us who have had a brain injury to tell our own stories, in our own words, and through our own images.

Please visit the community blog for my upcoming documentary, “Who Am I To Stop It.”

Everyone’s story is unique. How will you tell yours?
